As a child, I never questioned who God was, which made everyone quite
happy. I also did not question my mind's conclusion that God had a wife,
but this caused a bit of an uproar. My parents were very tolerant, but I quickly
learned that it was not acceptable to talk about this outside of the home. I
believe this is the reason for my late start at learning these things. It
has always been natural to me that the 'higher power' of the earth and my world
had to, in some way, represent both male and female. I call that a core belief.
Over the years my studies of various religious beliefs led me directly to the
realization that the pagan thoughts and beliefs were the ones that marched most
closely to my soul's beliefs. I feel a strong bond with Her, and so my
concentration begins here. I have a cassette tape called "Burning Times Rumors of the Big Wave." Even after studying the fold-out card that came with the tape, I'm not exactly sure which is the name of the album, and which is the name of the group. Burning Times is also my favorite song on the album. The chorus repeats several names of the Goddess in such a beautiful way that I have picked it up as a sort of mantra, especially useful when I am trying to keep my patience or under a lot of stress. Isis, Astarte, Diana, Hecate, Demeter, Kali, Inana This page is where I will keep track of my search. |
28 Nov 1997.....The Three Aspects While doing some reading on the web about the above-named goddesses, I stumbled across a reminder about the three aspects of the Goddess: maiden, matron, and crone. How many times I have sat beneath the moon wondering where I fit in... certainly no longer a maiden, unable to bear children which leaves me not feeling very matronly, and hopefully not yet old enough, and positively not wise enough, to be crone... So this too bears exploration. |
11 Jan 1998.....The Goddess by any other name... While continuing my efforts to learn about the Goddess, I've been making more notes. It occurs to me that by studying Her different cultural versions, basic similarities are becoming apparent. These universal qualities are interesting to me. For now I am simply listing the names of the Goddess as I study them, so you can see where I'm coming from. Brigit, Morrigan, Hathor, Heket, & Maat |
